This module provides an overview of methods of sampling and analysis for OTA. It outlines key issues in the sampling of coffee for determination of OTA levels and provides information on official sampling programmes in use in selected countries. The presentation and supporting documentation describe the main techniques used in OTA analysis and outline key advantages and disadvantages associated with the main analytical approaches. A comprehensive manual on quality assurance programmes for OTA analysis laboratories is also provided as a reference text for laboratory staff.

Objectives:

  • To provide key stakeholders in the coffee sector with information to guide decisions on choice of OTA analysis methods and related facility development;
  • To provide detailed guidance to laboratory staff in carrying out OTA analysis;
  • To make all those involved in carrying out monitoring or analysis programmes aware of the importance of sound sampling and to provide guidance on sampling.
